Western Union Taps Crossmint to Bring USDPT Stablecoin to Solana, Linking Cash Pickups
Western Union is stepping further into crypto payments by teaming up with Crossmint to bring a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin to Solana.
Announced March 4, the partnership will support USDPT — a dollar-denominated stablecoin first revealed in October 2025 and slated for launch in the first half of 2026 — as it rolls out on the Solana network. Anchorage Digital Bank is slated to issue the token.
The move ties USDPT into Western Union’s newly launched Digital Asset Network, which links on-chain dollars to real-world cash access across Western Union’s global payout infrastructure. That network already enables conversion of digital dollars into local currency at more than 360,000 collection points spanning 200+ countries and territories.
Crossmint will integrate USDPT into its wallet infrastructure and payment APIs, giving fintech platforms and developers an easy path to support the stablecoin. That integration means apps can hold value in digital dollars, move funds instantly on Solana’s fast, low-cost rails, and—when needed—route payouts into Western Union’s cash pickup network.
“A huge moment for stablecoins,” Crossmint said, noting the collaboration will connect USDPT on Solana to tens of thousands of Western Union on- and off-ramps worldwide. Malcolm Clarke, Western Union’s VP of digital assets, described the Digital Asset Network as a bridge that connects digital wallets and platforms directly to the company’s payout infrastructure, while Crossmint provides the technology layer to make the blockchain–traditional-rail integrations work. Rodrigo Fernández Touza, Crossmint’s co-founder, emphasized that developers using Crossmint’s APIs will be able to send funds on Solana and offer recipients the option to collect cash at Western Union locations where available.
The arrangement underscores a growing trend: stablecoins paired with established payout networks to streamline cross-border remittances and payments, leveraging Solana’s speed and low fees for on-chain settlement while preserving access to familiar cash pickup services.
